On today’s Insider Tanya and I shared some key takeaways from the 2026 Olympic BidCo presentation to Canmore council on Tuesday.

It was made clear that only items directly tied to and needed by the Games would be allocated Olympic funding.  That means, while we’d see a cash infusion for the Athlete’s Village / Affordable Housing project in Palliser and a new pathway system to the Nordic Centre, there would only be partial funding for flood mitigation and items like a new pedestrian overpass and a high-speed rail link would be off the table.

We also mused whether the Olympics would be our ticket to finally receive Resort Municipality Status and the money that would come with it.  And we shared an update on when council will decide whether to hold a public hearing, when that hearing would likely be, and when council will vote whether to support the bid.
