As a non-profit organization we rely very heavily on the generous donations that we receive from members of our community and beyond. As a No-Kill Shelter sometimes our vet fees can run very high and we need your help! This is exemplified in the case of our beloved Torro. Torro came to us after he was rescued from the streets of Mexico by a local family who couldn’t bear to leave him to suffer. Starving, emaciated, covered in mites, and unable to move his hind end, he was taken to the local vet. Battered and broken Torro underwent surgery on his hind femur while he was in Mexico and was eventually cleared for travel here. Unfortunately the family that had committed to adopting him were unable to keep their commitment, and we were called upon for assistance. We all agreed that we would do whatever was necessary to help our new 4 legged friend. Upon closer examination by our dedicated veterinarians it was discovered that Torro had Sarcoptic Mange, a tick borne illness called Ehrlichia, fractured teeth, anemia and a transmissible from of cancer called TVT. Torro has a fighting spirit, a dedicated team supporting him, and was given a good prognosis in regards to treating his medical conditions. While he won’t be ready to leave our care for quite some time, we have been working diligently to give Toro the medical care, and the chance he deserves to find his happy ending. After several rounds of chemotherapy he is now cancer free!! Torro’s mange has also been treated, he received physiotherapy for his hind legs, the Ehrlichia has been treated with antibiotics and we are now going to let him rest for awhile before we proceed with the neuter and extensive dental surgery that he requires. We wouldn’t be able to provide Torro, and other animals like him, with the extensive care that they need, without the generous support of our community. So on behalf of Torro and others like him, thank you for you ongoing and continued support!
