Tanya and I had a great conversation with special guest Wade Graham about short-term vacation rentals in Canmore on the Mountain Insider today.

I called Wade one of the ‘poster children’ for the situation we’re in right now.  Wade was operating his property as an illegal vacation rental for about 3 years and was recently issued an order to cease and a $2500 fine by the Town of Canmore.  He was open and honest about the reasons he got into renting his place out on airbnb, his take on the impact those rentals have on neighbourhoods, his dealings with the Town on the matter, and ideas about solutions as Canmore considers changes to its Land Use Bylaw.

Our first seemed to strike a chord with many people and we received a lot of fast feedback via phone, Facebook, email, and text.  We discussed some of that feedback in our second segment such as the argument short-term rentals take away inventory from renters and full-time residents looking to buy a home and how people can get involved in the conversation.

Thanks for joining us on the Insider today Wade!
