We recently got a call to help with a terrible situation in Northern Saskatchewan. The local authorities held a dog cull in a First Nations community. The community was overrun with dogs who were not being taken care of. Besides being an unhealthy situation for the dogs, it also posed a danger to people. The principal of the school and a small local rescue worked with the band to save as many dogs as they could. They rescued 52 dogs but then the issue became where do they all go? We were happy to have room to accept four dogs. We can provide them with medical care, behavior assessment and training, and find them the loving homes they deserve. The next issue was transportation as the community is about 9 hours from Canmore. Drivers were co-ordinated from La Loche to Edmonton to Canmore. It’s amazing what people can accomplish when they have a positive mission and a team of like minded people to work together. Check out the dogs on our website and, if you think you can give one a forever family, stop by for a visit!
