Claiming his 24th career medal in the final race of the World Cup season, Alex Harvey is the most decorated cross-country skier in Canadian history.  He did it in thrilling fashion on home soil in Quebec City with a photo finish silver!

In an article in the National Post, Dominick Gauthier from Radio-Canada sums up the impact Harvey has made on the World Cup circuit – “Just imagine if someone came to Canada from Japan and ended up being the best hockey player. Imagine how stunned and surprised and shocked we all would be. Well, Alex Harvey is that to the Scandinavians. It’s insane.”

It is then something of a shame that Alex Harvey is not more of a household name in Canada. Scott Russell from CBC Sports writes that Harvey is a superstar everywhere except in his home country. In Canmore, due to the fact that we have the pleasure of occasionally bumping into some of Canada’s top Nordic athletes and Olympians on Main Street, Harvey may be a bit more of a known quantity but still not on the same level as, say, a Connor McDavid, even though he’s arguably the greatest cross-country skier in North American history.

Congratulations on an outstanding season, Alex Harvey!
