A new acquisition this season, Braiden Doucette has been an excellent fit with the Canmore Eagles and has earned the honours of being the Mountain FM Player of the Month for December and the first defenceman to be given that recognition.

While guys like Matt Forchuk and Logan Ferguson may be getting a lot attention this season, Braiden Doucette has been a quiet force on the blue line since being acquired from the Bonnyville Pontiacs in September – with 9 goals and 21 assists he’s almost surpassed his totals from last season and there’s still over two months to go.  The 20-year-old led the team in scoring in December with 9 points (2 G, 7 A) and is also a leader in the dressing room, drawing his veteran experience from his stint with the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors and as Bonnyville’s captain last season.  He’s the kind of player the coaching staff can rely on to both play well in his own end and be part of scoring drives and they’ve been using him in every situation – even strength, power play, and penalty kills.

Braiden tells me he feels fortunate both his teammates and coaches have put him in situations that have allowed him to shine.

Congratulations Braiden!  We’re looking forward to seeing you back on home ice this Sunday at 2 PM.
