Its been our pleasure to host a number of special guests on air today to celebrate our first ever Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation Awareness Day. With the recent doubling of birth and delivery rooms at the Canmore Hospital complete, the Foundation is now focused on  and accepting donations for a major renovation project in the Golden Eagle View Long Term Care Centre. Check out some of our conversations below:

Soulafa Al-Abbasi is the Executive Director of the Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation. We spoke about why she’s so passionate about what she does, her own experiences giving birth in Canmore, and the vision for the renovation of the Golden Eagle View Long Term Care Centre at the Canmore Hospital.

Dr. Mike Wickham heads up the emergency department at the Canmore General Hospital. We spoke about why the Canmore Hospital is a great place to work and how the Foundation helps make it a first class facility.

Barb Shellian is the Director for Rural Health for Alberta Health Services and has been a familiar face in our local health care system since the days our hospital was located on Hospital Hill!  We talked about her early years working at the Canmore Hospital, the explosive growth of births and deliveries in Canmore, and why they wouldn’t be the Canmore Hospital they are without the support of the Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation.

Jack van Deventer talks about his experiences with our local health care system, both as a Director of the Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation and a regular patient at the hospital, and why something as simple as not having to travel to Calgary can make a huge difference in the lives of people dealing with chronic health issues.

Meghan Mutrie leads Connected Through Cancer, a free yoga session at Canmore Hot Yoga every Friday at 2:00 PM for anyone connected to cancer, whether as a patient, a caregiver, or any other way.  We spoke about why the class is both fun and humbling and what she hopes people take away from it.

Renate Grob came by to speak about the Canmore Ladies’ Hospital Auxiliary, an organization that’s been supporting our local hospital for over 40 years! We talked about the history of the Auxiliary, how it’s still going strong today, and why their recent connection with the Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation means they can team up to use their organization’s particular strengths to achieve similar goals.

Thanks again to all the special guests and everyone who has tuned in to our Canmore & Area Health Care Foundation Awareness Day!  Visit their website to learn more about the organization and make a donation.
