It was my pleasure to once again host Sue Panning, Artistic Director for the Canmore Folk Music Festival, for our annual Folk Fest Takeover! Once a year we blow out our regular playlist and feature artists performing at that year’s Folk Festival for a full hour. You can hear our conversation and this year’s playlist below:

Sue talks about the free Friday Night kickoff event featuring The Mammals:

We discuss the roots and blues bent of this year’s lineup, how that relates to the Festival’s origins 41 years ago, and set up a great tune from Ruthie Foster:

We discuss the abrupt breakup of The Stray Birds, their subsequent cancellation, and the artist who will be replacing them:

Sue and I talk about the family focus of the Festival and the ton of music and activities available for the kids:

Mountain FM is once again excited to present the Stage 4 Festival Pub at the Canmore Miners’ Union Hall! We talk about some of the local and out-of-town acts who will be appearing there over the course of the long weekend:

For the first time ever the Folk Fest has filled their volunteer slots well in advance of the long weekend! We talk about why it’s the best volunteer gig in town and the effort the Festival takes to be a part of the local community.  We also discuss the darling of Nashville who has now made Calgary her home:

Sue wanted to take an opportunity to thank the sponsors and supporters that make the Folk Festival happen each and every year:

We wrapped up the Takeover with this year’s headliner – Buffy Sainte-Marie! We also talk about buying your tickets in advance to avoid sellout disappointment:
