It was a packed house at Norquay’s Lone Pine Lodge yesterday afternoon for a great ‘old Banff’ reunion as over 300 people came out for the celebration of life for Dr. Priscilla Wilson. I was honoured to have been part of this event, providing background music and PA support for the speeches.

Dr. Wilson is a local legend – she was Banff’s first female doctor in a day and age when practicing medicine was still predominantly a man’s world.  In the early 80s, when Banff was on the verge of a Giardia outbreak, she pushed Parks Canada hard and was successful in making them change the town’s water source to wells and a reservoir affectionately known as “Priscilla’s Pond”.

Thanks to her family, Dr. Priscilla Wilson’s legacy will live on through a new endowment fund.  The interest from this money will go towards a perpetual annual award that will be handed out at the YWCA Banff Change Makers event beginning next year.  Connie MacDonald from the YWCA Banff spoke about this award as well as her personal connection to Dr. Wilson.
