With many businesses folding up their A-Frames due to increased enforcement around Canmore’s signage bylaw, the Bow Valley Chamber of Commerce has asked the Town of Canmore to press pause on the crackdown in order to have broader discussions with the local business community about the issue.

Bow Valley Chamber of Commerce President Janet Nystedt says they were expecting more dialogue about the subject before enforcement took place and hopes the Town will come back to the table to hear from affected businesses and collaborate on a new, revitalized bylaw.

I also spoke with Alaric Fish, Manager of Planning & Development at the Town of Canmore.  He says they were surprised by the Chamber’s call for pause.  We also discussed why the rules around signs are in place and why they’re stepping up enforcement now.
