A fire ban is now in place for Banff, Kootenay, and Yoho National Parks, with all open fires now restricted including campfires. Most propane cooking and heating appliances are still allowed – click here for details.

Jane Park from Parks Canada shared that information as well as the latest on the Verdant Creek wildfire. Right now the fire is classified as out of control but crews are managing it from the air and there is no present danger to our local communities. However, with the blaze now less than three kilometres from Sunshine Village, the current firefighting priority is protecting the infrastructure and people in the Ski Resort area.

Highway 93 South remains open but some areas and trails are currently closed.
