I had an absolute blast at YEGPIN, Edmonton’s Pinball and Arcade Expo this past weekend!

Other than watching my son Ben enjoy and improve his pinball skills over the weekend, my favourite part of YEGPIN was a chance to relive some childhood memories. Getting a chance to play a Michael Jackson Moonwalker arcade console brought me back to beating the game for less than $5 as a kid at the convenience store near my house.  Playing Final Fight made me fondly remember begging my dad for quarters to play it at the little arcade at the campground we stayed at on BC’s Mara Lake.  And destroying the Death Star to unlock the Tri-Ball in Star Wars pinball reminded me of the many times I did that as a teen at my local card store in between matches of Magic: The Gathering.  Sadly, the days of the classic video arcade are gone but this was as close as one could get to that experience in 2017!

I spoke with Derek Thomson from Die Hard Pinball about the Expo and his passion for pinball.

Thanks for a great weekend YEGPIN, I hope to be back next year!
