It’s that time of year when you’ll begin hearing holiday tunes on Mountain FM. We’ll be getting you into the Christmas spirit with contemporary originals along with your favourite classics. And yes, that does include a song that has questionable lyrics and intent in this day and age.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside was originally recorded for the 1949 film Neptune’s Daughter (that version seen above) and while there are arguments that the song may have been progressive due to the sexual norms of the time, the man’s attempt to ply the woman with alcohol while smooth talking her to stay despite her repeated attempts to leave aren’t a great fit with our modern standards of clear, unambiguous consent.

Singer-songwriter duo Lydia Liza and Josiah Lemanski from Minneapolis share those feelings about the original version of Baby, It’s Cold Outside and decided to rework the lyrics. Here’s their version:
