When Séan McCann decided to tackle the demons of alcoholism five years ago he ended up having to make another difficult choice.  Playing in Great Big Sea had been his life for a long time but being part of a party band was not a good place for a recovering alcoholic.  So Séan said farewell to his bandmates and embarked on a new solo career to spread his message of finding happiness by helping yourself.

I spoke with Séan about his message, his free-wheeling live shows without a setlist, writing a song in response to the Fort McMurray wildfire, his strong connection to the Banff Centre, and his show Thursday night at the Margaret Greenham Theatre.
