This shot from the base area of the Lake Louise Ski Resort is a pretty good indication as to why they’ve just pushed back their tentative opening date to Friday, November 18th.  While elevation and October precipitation allowed Sunshine Village to celebrate their earliest opening in 31 years, Mother Nature hasn’t been as kind to our three other local resorts.  Snowmaking just can’t happen with the unseasonable double-digit high temperatures we’re experiencing and we’re still waiting for a big winter dump of powder.

Nakiska also pushed back their tentative opening week to Saturday, November 19th. Here’s a shot looking up the Gold Chair from mid-mountain:

Norquay hasn’t even announced a tentative opening date yet.  With this picture from the Cascade Chair area can you blame them?

The ski industry is our primary tourism driver in the winter. When they have a strong season so does everyone else.  Let’s do a snow dance for Lake Louise, Norquay, and Nakiska and hope for cooler temps and a solid snow fall!

Long weekend skiers and riders can still enjoy the conditions at Sunshine Village!
