Eureka 3

I have a lot of friends in Edmonton who love doing Escape Rooms and constantly rave about them every time I visit. These businesses, giving teams the ability to work together and solve puzzles in real life, continue to grow in popularity. Up until Thursday I’d never had the pleasure of trying one but thanks to Eureka Banff Escape Room Adventures we now have a place to go in the Bow Valley!

Claire Breeze told me she got hooked on Escape Rooms a while ago and has traveled to cities all over North America to try to solve as many new ones as she can. As a local business owner already, and seeing an untapped market for this kind of experience here, they decided to give it a go!

Eureka 2

This is the only photo I was allowed to take in Eureka’s first Escape Room Marv’s Diner Deluxe so as not to give away any of the puzzles. Our team from Mountain FM (Gord, Marcus, Tanya, and me) joined with friends Natalie and Megan to give it a go and apparently we aced this first room, beating the current record by four minutes! It was in the second room where we got stuck. Eventually we reached the final challenge and were just minutes away from solving it when the buzzer went off signalling our hour was up. So close!

I don’t want to spoil any of the puzzles or surprises but I can tell you it’s set in a 50s-themed diner and candy laboratory. The challenges and puzzles really key in to all five of your senses. Teamwork is important to figuring many of them out – most of the puzzles saw one or two members of our group get an idea of what we were supposed to do and others use their unique skills and mental talents to finish them.

What a fun, unique experience! Eureka Banff Escape Room Adventures provides something really new and highly entertaining to our area that can be enjoyed by both locals and tourists. They currently have the one room and are nearly finished their next Warden’s Cabin room, with a more competitive Predator Vs. Prey room to follow. The advertised price is $30 per person but if you let them know you’re a local they’ll give you $5 off. I would say it’s worth the money!

Eureka Banff Escape Room Adventures is located below the Lux Cinema on Bear Street. To find out more and book your Escape Room experience visit the Eureka Banff website.
