Ski Tour

The Ski Tour Canada is in Canmore! The first ever multi-stage World Cup Cross-Country Skiing event in North America will take over the Nordic Centre March 8th, 9th, 11th, and 12th.

Olympian Sara Renner says it’s also the first time the coveted Crystal Globes will be presented to the best skiers on the circuit outside Europe.  She also says there’s a lot more going on than just the races!

Norbert Meier is the chair of the Ski Tour Canada’s Alberta races.  He says this event is the biggest cross-country ski race to come to Canmore since the 1988 Olympics and should be a great time for spectators.

Canada has posted some solid results in the first four stages of the event that took place in Quebec last week.  While Alex Harvey is taking the spotlight with his silver medal win and current fourth place overall standing we’ve had some other stellar results.  Canmore’s own Jess Cockney told me he was thrilled with his 10th place finish after struggling to reach his goals for much of the season.

There’s no parking on-site but you can catch a free shuttle running on race days between the Nordic Centre and the downtown bus stop behind the visitor information centre.  For a full race schedule and details on the Athlete’s Village celebrations and other local events visit the Canmore Winter Carnival website.
