With the council vote tied, the proposal to bring a new weekend Farmer’s Market to Banff’s Heritage Railway Station was defeated Monday. But while the market will be a no-go for this summer, the idea is still on the table.

Deputy Mayor Chip Olver talked about the proposal and said the decision boiled down to permits and regulations – at this point in time the provisions to allow this type of activity simply don’t exist in Banff’s Land Use Bylaw, but council directed administration to explore options to make something like this happen in the future.

Chip Olver did want to remind everyone that the regular Wednesday Banff Farmer’s Market is still a go at its new location in the Bear Street parking lot with an expected June 10th opening.  Also, the official launch of the new Bear Street woonerf will take place June 5th, and June is Bike Month and Banff is planning a number of special activities.
