My final Bow Valley Taste Off – Best Breakfast sampling trip took me to the great little Javalanche Cafe in Lake Louise to try one of the most unique breakfast items I’ve ever had.

A common response when I’ve talked to people about this contest and the Javalanche Cafe is “Where’s that?” You’d be forgiven for missing this one – it’s tucked in between the Husky gas station and Mountain Restaurant, just off your first right at the four-way stop in Lake Louise Village.  It’s been my go-to coffee place whenever I’m in Lake Louise ever since I did a live broadcast from their grand opening just over three years ago.  Great coffee, yummy food, and a priority to keep things local with espresso beans from the Banff Roasting Company, pastries from JK Bakery, and bread from nearby Invermere.  Kyle and Tess told me more about the Cafe and their unique Apple Fritter Breakfast.

As my breakfast was being served to me, another customer in the restaurant turned and said “So it’s a breakfast sandwich, but instead of a bun you’ve used an apple fritter? That’s genius!” It’s definitely an interesting idea and I’d say it works on execution.  An egg, cheese, and thinly sliced apple on an apple fritter with more fruit on the side.  The sugar and sweetness definitely give it a different taste than your typical breakfast sandwich.  Overall it’s a fairly healthy breakfast as well with a little representation of all the food groups on one plate.  It’s a great entry into this contest because it’s something you won’t find anywhere else.  I found myself craving another one when I woke up this morning so it’s one I’d definitely try again!

Vote for your favourite breakfast dish in the Bow Valley Taste Off.  Voting closes Sunday night and I’ll announce the winner Monday morning!
